Welcome to the Mini-Hops Boys Pre-Team Program

This is a two level program for young boys with a higher level of athletic ability, concentration, dedication, and a fearless personality. These young boys want to learn gymnastics at a fast pace, while starting to condition their bodies with strength and flexibility training. The two levels are Boys Elite (Ages 4-5) and Boys Training Team (Ages 5-7). These boys are chosen from either Mini-Hops pre-school programs or recreational program with the expectation to compete for the Mini-Hops Boys Team after training appropriately.

The Boys Pre-Team program is invitation only, but a try out request can be made from a parent. If you are asked to join the pre-team program and accept, you are accepting the responsibility and commitment of a year round athletic program where the progress of your child depends on repetition and attendance. You are entering the program with the assumption that your child will compete in gymnastics for Mini-Hops some time within the next three years. This sport requires more time than most other sports to keep your child safe and successful! There are six different events in men’s gymnastics and all need extensive training. Repetition is the key to gymnastics!

One of the first questions we get about the pre-team program is “What is the difference between the recreational program and the pre-team program?”

Choosing the right pre-team boys is the first key. We look for boys who are good listeners, have the ability to make quick corrections, advanced skills for their age, and are physically strong. From there we evaluate the child, have them attend a trial class, where afterwards we determine if it would be a good fit for the family, the child, and the pre-team program. The five main differences between the pre-team program and the recreational program are:

  1. The amount of strength and flexibility training that they will/must be able to do.
  2. The ability to work through fears.
  3. The demand for higher quality of skills-concentrating on mastering the skill.
  4. Commitment to year round training.
  5. Team building events that create a sense of team awareness and connection to the competitive team.
